                          Answers

Q: What is a Designer mat ?
A:
A 'DESIGNER' mat is a mat that has a special cut in the border of the mat.  This cut may be in the top mat showing the lower mat colors or it might be a cut in the lower mat where it comes into the image, like cropping, so it covers a portion of the image.  A sample is what we call a ..... photo corner-coming into the image.

Q: How does the MOBILE
        service work ?

A:
We are the only picture framing company in Maine that offers this service.  We will come
to your home of place of business.  This offer is free for the greater Portland and auburn areas limited to a one hour consultation.  Areas beyond this have a nominal fee for travel included.  We bring the mat colors, frame samples and mat design choices to you.  This way the customer (you) can decorate for their environment.  Since you are unable to bring the sofa, drapes and carpet to us, and recalling these colors and textures it difficult once you see the mat colors available.

Q: Why don't you have
        custom  framing prices
        on the website ?

A:
Custom prices are mostly depicted by actual outer dimensions but there are others factors.
The design choices, mat type, glass type , and especially the frame will change the price. What you are really paying for is 'TALENT' and EXPERIENCE...knowledge and creativity vary by person.  Our experience plays in the color choices, frame style, and most importantly the best design that will enhance your image.  All of this also protects the item.  What materials are chosen preserve the image at different levels. We will be glad to schedule a constult and see what price options we can come up with.  Education is also part of the process-prices can get lower but the end product changes as decissions are made.

Q:
How long is a consult ?

A:
A consult, either in home, office or our shop usually take about one hour.  This allows time to learn a little about the customer to create the best design to bring out their personality and not mine.  We have to choose color (mat and frame), which usually takes longer than most people anticipate- every color choice changes what is drawn out of the image (what your eye is drwan to).  To best serve you, (the customer)  I want to allow enough time so nothing is rushed and we end up with the perfect end result. The first hour is complimentary, a small fee for every 1/2 hour more.
Q:  How many mat colors
           choices do you have ?

A:
Around the Image has a large variety of mat colors and texture choices. We have always been able to find what people need .  We prefer bainbridge and crescent mat companies. If we don't hwave that perfect color, we will do our best to find it someplace.

Q:  How many Frame
           choices do  you
have?
A:
Deborah chooses to have several frames on hand to look at.  The others are on the computer. Having choices on the computer allows Around the Image to keep overhead down, not needing the actual space for samples and paying for the samples we are able to pass these savings on to YOU.
Q:  When can I expect my
      project to be
finished ?
A:
Around the Image has about a three(3) to five (5) week turn around time.  This allows us to order materials needed along with hand cutting the specialized design decided on during the consult appointment.  We can sometime do RUSH orders for an added cost.
Q:  What is conservation                framing- I have heard
             lots about it ?

A:
Conservation framing means using materials that will preserve the artwork.  Many valuables, signed and numbered prints, memorable, inheritated items, and much more are brought to a custom picture framer.  The mat board is acid free so has no harmful 'tree' by-products.  The glass varies depending on the UV protection level desired and choosen.
